Engineering Returner Programme with Meggitt

International engineering company Meggitt Polymers and Composites, a division of Meggitt PLC, has announced an innovative response to the growing engineering skills shortage by attracting back engineers after a career break.  Teaming up with STEM Returners, Meggitt are offering engineers who’ve been on a career break, a structured return to work, including training, mentoring, work experience, and most importantly the opportunity of a permanent job.  The opportunities are based in Hertfordshire and Leicestershire.

About Meggitt PLC

Headquartered in the UK, Meggitt PLC is a global engineering company, specialising in extreme environment components and smart sub-systems, for aerospace, defence and energy markets.  Currently recruiting for numerous specialist engineering roles, Meggitt is committed to ensuring that they are attracting the very best talent for their UK operations, part of which is removing barriers to apply.

Engineers often face insurmountable barriers to returning to work after a career break, be that because of a perception by hirers of a deterioration of skills, or a lack of flexibility.  Meggitt’s ground-breaking programme is showing career break returners that they value those skills that have been gained whilst out of industry.

Who can apply?

The programme is open to male and female engineers who have taken any length career break, as well as those that wish to transfer sectors but lack the relevant work experience.

Candidates signing up to the ‘STEM Returners’ programme will join a paid, 13-week structured return to work programme, which will include soft skills training, technical training and on the job experience, as well as coaching and mentoring support.

At the end of the 13 weeks, job offers will be made by Meggitt, to those who have shown the necessary skills and aptitude to join the engineering specialists.

Sarah Mackay, Senior HR Director said “I think this is a great programme for those who have left engineering for whatever reason, and are looking to get back into a career they trained hard for in the first place”

Natalie Desty, Founder of STEM Returners said “We are so excited to be running this programme in partnership with Meggitt Polymers and Composites UK Division.  We pride ourselves in working with innovative and inclusive companies, who value the skills and experience that career break engineers have to offer.”

How to apply

Candidates wishing to apply have until the 7th September, and can do so here.
